Matt has lovingly constructed a powerful, fun, and unique multisensory breathwork class unlike any you have tried before. The class is rooted in the form of yoga known as Kriya- traditionally made up of specific sets of exercises, pranayama (breathing) techniques, and mantras used to unlock energy channels (chakras) in the body.
Matt’s class combines the practice of shaking to release stress and pent up energy, with a variety of breathwork techniques that address the 3 essential aspects of healthy breathing (biochemistry, biomechanics, cadence/coherence), all while exploring a diverse spectrum of bass-centric, beat-driven rhythmic music (like a high-tech, modern form of shamanic drumming).
The foundational aspect of the practice utilizes breath holds (kumbhaka) and rhythmic breathing in a manner that helps improve breathing function, and brings balance to the two branches of the nervous system so that you’re training your stress response to turn down in a healthy way. Our modern lifestyles and unconscious, dysfunctional breathing patterns can keep our stress response turned on to some degree, and many don’t take the time to turn it off in a consistent or meaningful way.
Overall, this practice aims to empower you with the ability to control your state of being at any time in any place. It can help improve dysfunctional breathing patterns, and the techniques aid in: reducing inflammation, stress, anxiety, and depression, the release of trauma, increased focus, energy, memory, resilience, and confidence.
